Sauna Whisks

Usage and Benefits of Sauna Whisking

saunawhisks.jpg

Birch and eucalyptus sauna whisks (vihta or vasta, are the traditional Finnish names, whereas vennik is the Russian) are traditional tools used in saunas for aromatherapy, skin exfoliation, and improving circulation, often combined for a balanced experience; birch offers gentle, fresh scents and skin-softening benefits, while eucalyptus provides a potent, invigorating aroma ideal for respiratory relief, creating a powerful yet calming wellness ritual that enhances relaxation and connection to nature.

Benefits & Properties

  • Birch: Classic choice, fresh scent, packed with vitamins (C, A), tannins, and antioxidants; softens skin, boosts circulation, and has light exfoliating properties.

  • Eucalyptus: Invigorating aroma, rich in essential oils, clears sinuses, supports respiratory health, great for colds and sore throats.

  • Combined: Blending them offers the best of both worlds—healing eucalyptus with the softer, nourishing qualities of birch.

How to Use

  1. Prepare: Soak the dried whisk in warm (not hot) water for about 30-40 minutes before your sauna session.

  2. Activate: Bring the whisk into the sauna; the heat releases its natural oils and intense aroma.

  3. Whisk: Gently tap or brush the whisk over your skin (back, shoulders, legs) to stimulate blood flow and exfoliate; it should be a light, massaging sensation, not harsh.

  4. Aromatherapy: Dip the whisk in water and splash it on the sauna stones (löyly) to create fragrant steam.

  5. Reuse: Rinse lightly and hang to dry in a cool, dry place; proper care allows for multiple uses
